K&F Tripod Update Its not great news sadly
A little while back i did a review of the K&F Concept tripod, and it had its problems but had a-lot of good points too, however since then things have not gone great if i am being honest, and as i had done the review i thought it would only be fair to tell you about some of the new issues thats going on with the tripod.
With my first post i said there were some issues with the locking nuts on the legs, after having been to the beach, i pulled them apart and had to clean everything as the sand had got everywhere inside the tripod, i thought that it was a one off thing maybe, but clearly not, at times and for no real reason the nuts as you try to tighten or loosen them start to stick, despite again taking the entire leg apart and cleaning everything with a fine tooth comb, (actually that is what i used to try and get rid of all the dirt) and again i thought i had fixed the problem, but to this day anything with any kind of dirt or anything that can possibly get inside it. In reality this should not be happening on a tripod that is this old, in fact this should not be happening at all, to me and again i am just a tripod user not a designer but its a design flaw with the way the legs are pulled in and out, and the actual screw mechanism to to either loosen or tighten the legs, i don't know if it needs a seal of some sort, but i will show you what i mean with some pictures.
The locking mechanism at the top of the legs which allows you to spread the legs out further giving you better footing has also become really stiff at times, with this one i have no idea at all why, again it has to be a design flaw with the inside of the locking mechanism thats the issue, it will keep the legs in place when you bring them back in, its as you go to spread them out again.
And then we come to the most annoying part of the tripod, the plate.
As you can see from the picture above, the pads are waring thin already and area actually coming away, which considering how long i have had the tripod this really is not good enough, and it seems that this may be the reason why the camera is constantly dropping as it has nothing to grip onto when its attached, now originally i thought it was the nut not attaching properly, but having taken a closer look at the plate i think its the rate of wear and the fact they are coming away.
K&F are aware of the issues that i have had with the tripod, and have said that they have passed on my concerns to the development side of the company, In regards to the plate issue they did send me out a new one, however its the wrong plate, its far too big to fit in the connection.
So where does that leave me?, the tripod was paid for by myself , I am currently waiting for the company to get back to me in regards to where we go from here.
Its a huge shame as this tripod as massive potential, the ability to move the legs out much wider than normal is a really good and opens up your options when trying to get a stable position to get pictures from, the lightweight of it is for me a massive plus considering how shot my shoulders are you are not really aware its there when carrying it on your bag.
But all the good points get wiped out when you take into account the issues this tripod has.
A few days have passed since i wrote the above passages, i have now heard from the company and they have offered to replace it with a different version of the travel version.
I genuinely dont know if this was an isolated issue with the tripiod or if it is a design flaw, but im sure to find out soon when they send me the new version.
The one thing that i do have to say again is that despite the issues, the contact i have within the company has always done his best to help me with the issues or questions that i have had for him, including emailing over the holidays when i would have thought they would have been away.
Watch this space for any updates, and the new one i might even video.
